This evaluation will set out the various points that our own game did achieve and not cover but also to cover the issues, problems and organisation that our group had to deal with.
The game we set out to designed and create at the start is completely different to the one we ended up and produce, this was because of factors such as location’s in the area and the clear communication of our idea and the game to the people playing it. The object of our game was to enjoy it and for it to be easily playable so the participants didn’t find themselves lost, stuck needing help or frustrated at that lack of clues. I believe we managed to achieve this as the ‘make up’ of the game had three clues for every location the players had to go to, this was ensure that the players managed to play the game to the end and enjoying it as well, but perhaps using less clues for each location and more specific instructions would achieve the same result.
Although the game was successful to the point of it being completed and the participants enjoying it, certain elements in the games ’make up’ and overall aesthetics were missing. These elements include items such as rules for the game, time restrictions and interaction with the people in the area. Elements like the ones mention would make the game more rounded and complete and interesting to the players. Rules would add definition to the structure, time restrictions would add an elements of urgency and in turn would lead to the players working together and getting their adrenalin rising and the interaction with people from the area would give the players an insight and opinions into the area from local people. The aesthetics of the game could have been made more pleasing to the eye but still managed to achieve its purpose.
The main issue and problem we encounter in our group was all meeting up to discuss, decide and to finalise anything. When we did meet as a group, activity in these area’s never seemed to move on to the next stage, waiting on individuals to finalise their own research area was a common problem and in turn this lead to frustration in the group, however as the completion date became closer individuals and the group as a whole began to produce more ideas, research and theories to the games design. Problems in our group ranged from miscommunication of ideas, researching an exact area to cover and delegating jobs to be done in the group. The main issue of these problems was that there was no overall person leading the group which at first led to a good team atmosphere but later on led to tension in the group. Overall the game we produced was a fun, interesting concept which could be developed into something much more complete and fulfilling.
